From P.J Hogan, the director of the delightful “Muriel’s Wedding” (1994) comes this charming romantic comedy…
“My Best Friend’s Wedding” was released on this day June 20th 1997, making the film 20 years old as of today.
For those in the know, the film focuses on Julianne (played excellently by Julia Roberts) who realizes that she is in love with her best friend Michael (played by Dermot Mulroney) after he announces that he is getting married to Kimmy (played by Cameron Diaz) and thus decides to sabotage the wedding. What follows is chaos of comic proportions with an intriguing twist which will not be spoiled here.
Fun fact: Hogan also directed the enchanting fantasy flick “Peter Pan” (2003), one of my childhood favorites.
Also, James Newton Howard was Oscar-nominated for Best Music, Original Musical or Comedy Score.
On a fun note, it seems that Hogan has a thing for weddings that is for sure.
If you are looking for 90s sweetness and hilarity or a fan of the lead actors which also includes Rupert Everett, James Newton Howard’s music and the romantic comedy genre, then this is for you or for anyone you know who likes the aforementioned aspects.
For every couple or any viewer in general, this is recommended if you are in the mood for romance and laughter.
