22 June 2017; “Brave” (2012) Throwback

“But every once in a while, there is a day when I don’t have to be a princess, no lessons, no expectations, a day where anything can happen, a day I can change my fate”.

“Brave” was released on this day June 22nd 2012, making the film 5 years old as of today.

This animated adventure fantasy dramedy centers on a spirited princess named Merida (voiced with charm by Kelly Macdonald who you may know from “Nanny McPhee” (2005) ) who defies an age-old custom to not be betrothed and inadvertently puts her kingdom in danger.

Fun fact: Unsurprisingly, the film won the Oscar for Best Animated Film at the 85th Academy Awards.

If you like Scottish music, fun characters, the lead voice actors which also includes Oscar winner Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane aka Hagrid from the “Harry Potter” films (2001 – 2011) and Oscar nominee Julie Walters aka Rita from “Educating Rita” (1983) and Mrs Weasley in the “Harry Potter” films as well as breathtaking computer animation showcasing Scotland, then this is for you or for anyone you know who likes the aforementioned aspects.

Recommended for Disney/Pixar fans and families. The younger children might enjoy the funny antics of the three triplet brothers while the relationship between mother and daughter may appeal to older audiences.

Warning: You might shed a tear at some point.
