Another entry for…Blast from the Past!
As mentioned before in my “Contact” (1997) post, Robert Zemeckis has directed films like the “Back to the Future” Trilogy (1985 – 1990), “Cast Away” (2000), and others, as well as this fantasy black comedy…
Lisle Von Rhuman: [Lisle is about to give Madeline a potion that grants eternal youth and beauty] “But you must make me a promise. The secret that we share must never become public. You may continue your career for ten years. Ten years of perfect, unchanged beauty. But at the end of that time, before people start to become suspicious, you have to disappear from public view forever. You can retire, you can stage your own phony death, or… as one of my clients simply said, I want to be alone.”
Madeline Ashton: “No. She…”
Lisle Von Rhuman: [Lisle nods]
“Death Becomes Her” was released on this day July 31st 1992, making the film 25 years old as of today.
The movie centers on 2 women and rivals (played by Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn), who both drink a potion of eternal youth from Lisle Von Rhuman (played by Golden Globe nominee Isabella Rossellini), a woman who works with youth rejuvenation, and use it to outdo each other.
Fun fact; the film won both a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Also, Meryl Streep was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical.
On a personal note, I remember being introduced to the film, which was in December 2009. How time flies.
If you like the cast that also includes Golden Globe winner Bruce Willis caught in the middle of the ladies’ commotion, as well as looking for 90s fantasy in a comedic fashion, then this is for you, or for anyone you know, who likes the aforementioned aspects.
