21 August 2017; “Dirty Dancing” (1987) Throwback

Get ready for today’s…Blast from the Past!

From Oscar winner Emile Ardolino, the director of Chances Are (1989), Sister Act (1992), and many others, comes this romantic drama dance classic…

Johnny Castle: “Nobody puts Baby in a corner”.

Dirty Dancing was released on this day August 21st 1987, making the film 30 years old as of today.

The film centers on a young woman named Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman (played with innocence and spirit by Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Grey) who falls in love with Johnny Castle (played by Golden Globe nominee Patrick Swayze), a dance instructor, who just happens to be at her vacation location.

Fun fact; the film won the Oscar at the 60th Academy Awards, for Best Original Song; “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life”.

Also, the film has cemented its way into the AFI (American Film Institute) lists, being #86 in the 100 Years…100 Songs list, 93 in 100 Passions, and 98 in the 100 Movie Quotes list for the mentioned quote.

Some of the film’s highlights include the undeniable chemistry between Grey and Swayze, the  choreography, soundtrack (including the brilliant listed song), and of course, the iconic lift ending.

If you like the cast, that also features Jerry Orbach (who you may know as the voice of Lumiere in the 1991 version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast), as well as looking for an obvious and fun chick flick, then this is for you, or for anyone you know, who likes the aforementioned aspects.

Recommended for lovers of 80s romantic cinema, hopeful and hopeless romantics, and couples of course.
