16 July 2018; “Free Willy” (1993) Throwback

Get ready for today’s…Blast from the Past!

From Primetime-Emmy winner Simon Wincer, the director of the charming “D.A.R.Y.L.” (1985), as well as “The Young Black Stallion” (2003), and others, comes this (likely unforgettable) family flick…

Randolph Johnson: (seeing Jesse dancing with Willy) “Looks like Willy has got himself a soulmate.”

“Free Willy” released on this day July 16th 1993, making the film 25 years old as of today. The plot follows an orphan boy named Jesse (Jason James Richter) who befriends the titular captive orca (Keiko) while working at the aquarium where Willy resides.

Fun fact: the AFI (American Film Institute) nominated the  film to be placed in its 100 Years…100 Cheers list.

Some of the film’s highlights include the cast, performances, charming moments between Jesse and Willy, the beautiful and powerful music score by the late Primetime-Emmy winner Basil Poledouris, and the climax (possibly the most iconic scene in the film), which will not be spoiled here.If you are looking for a family motion picture from the 90s, while handling its dramatic moments, then this is for you, or for anyone you know, who likes the aforementioned aspects.
