18 July 2018; “The Dark Knight” (2008) Throwback

Get ready for today’s 2nd and last…Blast from the Past!

From Oscar nominee Christopher Nolan, the acclaimed director of critical hits and now classics such as “Memento” (2000), “Interstellar” (2014), “Dunkirk” (2017), and others, comes this superhero classic…

Joker: “Why so serious?”

Although the film released earlier on the 14th of July 2008 in New York City, “The Dark Knight” released throughout the whole USA on this day July 18th 2008, making the film 10 years old as of today.

Based on the DC comics, as well as taking place after the events of “Batman Begins” (2005), and serving as the 2nd film of “The Dark Knight Trilogy” (2005-2012), Bruce Wayne aka Batman (Oscar winner Christian Bale) must prevent the Joker (played brilliantly by the late Oscar winner Heath Ledger) from causing chaos in Gotham City.

Fun fact; the film won 2 Oscars, for Best Supporting Actor – Heath Ledger (a posthumous win as he passed away on January that same year, some months after filming), and for Best Sound Editing (Richard King), and earned 6 nominations, for Best Cinematography (Wally Pfister), Film Editing (Lee Smith), Art Direction (Nathan Crowley (art director) & Peter Lando (set decorator) ), Makeup (John Caglione Jr. & Conor O’Sullivan), Sound Mixing (Lora Hirschberg, Gary Rizzo & Ed Novick), and Visual Effects (Nick Davis, Chris Corbould, Tim Webber & Paul J. Franklin), making it 2 wins out of 6 nominations.

Some of the film’s highlights include the story, complex characters, cast including other greats such as Oscar winners Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, performances, direction, screenplay, brilliant and powerful music score by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and nominee James Newton Howard, sound, and visual effects.

If you are looking for an absolute thrill ride from a superhero motion picture, whether it is for a superhero film admirer or not, then this is for you, or for anyone you know, who likes the aforementioned aspects.

Highly recommended to fans of the listed characters and actors, the action and superhero genre.
