Get ready for today’s…Blast from the Past!
From the late director Ulu Grosbard, comes this underrated romantic drama…
Frank Raftis: “You work in the city?”
Molly Gilmore: “No, I do commercial art.”
“Falling in Love” released on this day November 21st 1984, making the film 35 years old as of today.
The plot follows two people (played by Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro) who meet by chance during Christmas shopping. Little do they know that by months later they bump into each other again on a train ride and have a great time in terms of conversation. Although both are married, they really value their friendship and do not want an affair. Their deep friendship is tested when unexpected circumstances occur.
Fun fact; this marks the second collaboration between Streep and De Niro. The first one being “The Deer Hunter” (1978).
Some of the highlights include the cast that also features Oscar nominee Harvey Keitel and Oscar winner Dianne Wiest, heartfelt performances, direction, cinematography by BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nominee Peter Suschitzky, and music score by Oscar winner Dave Grusin.
If you are looking for something that has a similar narrative to “Brief Encounter” (1945), or a flick to watch with your boyfriend/girlfriend, or a movie that stars two of some of the greatest actors ever, then this is for you, or for anyone you know, who likes the aforementioned aspects.
