O…M…G! I LOVE this book! This is (by far) my favourite historical fantasy novel and it totally deserves the love and hype. I can happily relate to Jane for our bookish and feisty personalities. Would I read it again? ABSOLUTELY!
The story takes place in the alternate history of Lady Jane Grey who was queen for nine days. In this case, it’s up to the dying 16-year-old King Edward, 16-year-old Lady Jane, and 19-year-old Lord Gifford (Call him G) Dudley to save their kingdom from the political war between Edians (eth-y-uns) people who can transform into different animals, and Verities, the normal people who fear and despise them.
Hand, Ashton, and Meadows have written brilliantly, hilariously, and beautifully with this take on the historical tale of the Nine Days Queen.
Fun and vibrant characters and great character development.
The writing style is top-notch.
