20 November 2019; “The Blind Side” (2009) Throwback

Get ready for today’s…Blast from the Past!

From John Lee Hancock, the director of works such as the brilliant film “Saving Mr. Banks” (2013), comes this charming sport biopic…

Leigh-Ann Tuohy: “HEY YOU! ZIP IT UP THERE OR I WILL COME AND ZIP IT FOR YOU!”

“The Blind Side” released on this day November 20th 2009, making the film 10 years old as of today.

Based on Michael Lewis’ 2006 non-fiction novel “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game”, the plot follows a homeless and traumatized teenager named Michael Oher (played by Quinton Aaron) and how he overcame personal and academic obstacles to play football with the help of his adoptive family, a key figure being Leigh Anne Tuohy (powerfully played by Sandra Bullock in an Oscar winning role) his compassionate and feisty adoptive mother.

Fun fact; the flick also received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture in the first year that the rules said there must be at least 10 (previously 5) Best Picture nominees. The producers were surprised by this and the Academy later changed their compulsory necessity “to now allow ‘up to’ 10 nominees.

Some of the film’s highlights include the story, cast that also features Oscar winner Kathy Bates, heartfelt performances and moments, characters, screenplay, dialogue, and direction.

If you are looking for a motion picture that has both a sport true story and underdog narrative to it, then this is for you, or for anyone you know, who likes the aforementioned aspects.

Recommended to fans of Sandra Bullock, football/rugby, biopics and sport films.
